Pace of Play

On January 13th, the Board of Directors held a meeting to discuss a variety of topics; one of them was "length of play" at our SCDGC Tournaments. The average tournament length was approximately 6 hours long... which is unacceptable!

Therefore, we have developed a catch phrase called "4 point 5" which basically stands for four-and-half hours [4.5 or 4 1/2]. This section will provide a variety of pointers and tips on how to improve pace of play.

The goal of every SCDGC golfer should be 4.5 hours of play, with 5 hours being acceptable.

Tip #1: "Putt Out" means that when all players reach the green, the 1st person to putt should keep putting until the ball drops in the hole. The only exception is to mark your ball if your stance interferes with another player's line of putt.

Tip #2: "Survey Putting Green" means that while you are waiting for your turn to putt, analyze the putting green while the player ahead of you is getting ready for their putt - but, don't interfere with their sight!
